A slight anxiety towards using ‘harsh’ machine based processes has pushed me towards a desire for a more calming approach to making, and one that seeks to be as sustainable as possible with material choice. I am driven by the extensive use of hand-made skills to challenge the use of automated machine processes as well as to highlight the value of manual labour which is important in my agricultural background. This is in order to build interior experiences that surround and evoke emotional responses from the viewer with scale that one would expect to be achieved by the use of industrial processes. My large scale sculptural work centres on utilising the structural properties of folded paper and its spatial impact when incorporating light. My ideas range from highly intricate lighting chandeliers that are built using adaptive tessellation forms, to larger installation-based work that demands a strong work ethic, a high level of commitment and determination in order to bring the ideas and level of excitement I desire to life.
